Self-cleansing with strong prayers. Psalms from Enemies Read Psalter 55 58 139

Psalm 139 refers to songs of forgiveness, they are characterized by difficult circumstances of writing: captivity, flight, persecution, threat to life. All this King David experienced in his life, even the flight and the threat of death from his own son.

This text is extremely important for a Christian; it contains not only the wisdom of the king, but also the correct attitude of a Christian to difficulties and trials.

History of writing

The inscriptions in the Hebrew, Latin and Greek Psalms say that the author of this psalm is King David. In addition to the inscription, this fact confirms the similarity of the text with Psalms 57 and 63 - their conclusions are almost the same. At the same time, Psalm 139 refers to songs of lamentations and petitions, since in it David speaks of enemies, who are shown in the text as very insidious and resourceful.

Psalm 139 was written at a time when King David was hiding from his son Absalom

All these images, and most importantly, stylistic features are characteristic of the king's songs in that historical period, when Absalom's son plotted evil against the reign of the song-singer.

Researchers say that the text was created at a time when Absalom had already begun to gather an army against his father, but had not yet begun an open confrontation. David was in Jerusalem at the time, but was already preparing to flee. The king was helpless against the cunning and treacherous son, could not do anything with him and was forced to silently watch as Absalom cunningly turned people against him.

Perhaps David did not fully believe that his son would dare to declare war, it is not known for sure.

The interpretation of the psalm

The text begins gloomily - the author does not see salvation, he suffers spiritually and physically (the king was sick with something at that time). He complains about the enemies who persecute and long for the death of the author, but at the same time the singer trusts in God and asks Him to punish the enemies and do justice to everyone. Along with the gloom and sadness of the author, one can see in the text the hope in the Heavenly Father.

Analyzing the verses, one can observe the following picture:

Important! The main characteristic of King David was that he always trusted in God. He never despaired and did not accept the help of man before the help of God.

Reading Rules

This psalm is read as part of 17 kathismas in Church Slavonic during weekly services and twice during Great Lent:

Deliver me, O Lord, from a wicked man, deliver me from an unrighteous man, even thinking unrighteousness in my heart, all day I will fight the army, sharpening my tongue, like a serpent, the poison of asps under their lips. Save me, O Lord, from the hands of sinners, from the people of the unrighteous, save me, even thinking the back of my foot. Hiding the network of pride to me, and already stretching the network of my legs. On the path, lay temptations to me. Rech of the Lord: Thou art my God; inspire, O Lord, the voice of my supplication. Lord, Lord, the power of my salvation, Thou hast overshadowed my head on the day of battle. Do not betray me, O Lord, from my desire to a sinner: if you think of me, do not leave me, but not when they ascend. The head of their entourage, the work of their mouths, I will cover. Fiery coals will fall on them, if I lay down in passions, and they will not stand. A pagan man will not be corrected on earth: an unrighteous evil man will be caught into destruction. Know that the Lord will bring judgment to the poor and revenge on the poor. Both the righteous will confess to Your name, and they will dwell in righteousness with Your face.

1 Head of the choir. Psalm of David.

2 Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man; save me from the oppressor:

3 they think evil in their hearts, they rise up in battle every day,

4 they sharpen their tongue like a snake; the poison of the asp is under their mouths.

5 Keep me, O Lord, from the hand of the wicked; keep me from the oppressors who plot to shake my steps.

6 The proud have hidden snares and nooses for me;

7 I said to the Lord: You are my God; Hear, O Lord, the voice of my prayers!

8 Lord, Lord, power of my salvation! You covered my head on the day of battle.

9 Give not, O Lord, what is desired to the ungodly; do not let his evil plan succeed: they will become proud.

10 May the evil of their own lips cover the heads of those around me.

11 Let burning coals fall on them; let them be thrown into the fire, into the abyss, so that they do not get up.

12 A wicked man will not establish himself on earth; evil will drag the oppressor into destruction.

13 I know that the Lord will do justice to the oppressed and justice to the poor.

14 Yes! the righteous will praise your name; the blameless will dwell before you.

Advice! It is recommended to read the text in case of unfair treatment by loved ones, unfair trial, harassment at work and in personal life.

The song will strengthen the spirit of a Christian and allow you to concentrate not on oppression and trials, but on the mercy of the Creator.

Psalter. Psalm 139

Prayer is the work of the human soul, a special duty of the believer, who must develop his spirit in order to comprehend the commandments of the Lord. Assimilation of them is not given from birth. They must be comprehended by comparing your life with the example that Jesus Christ gave us.

It is regrettable that people turn to faith and appeal to God most often in times of sorrow and life's turmoil. Everyone can come face to face with such trials, when the only hope is exclusively in the Lord.

Psalm 90 - prayer from the Psalms - books old testament. This text is very old. Philologists believe that the author is King David. In the Greek version of the Psalter, it is called "David's Laudatory Song", in the Russian Orthodox it is called "Living in Help", in the Western Christian Latin- Quihabitat. Psalm 90 is also featured in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew.

This prayer must be said to a person who has come into contact with the temptations of the spirit, such as the desire to get rich at the expense of others. Or when lust arises for the wives or husbands of other people. And also at the moment when a person is attacked by devilish entities who want to push a Christian off the righteous path. Then psalm 90 comes to the rescue, and it must be said until sinful thoughts disappear.

The main thing in reading a prayer is to feel your connection with the Lord, his protection and intercession. All this gives Psalm 90.

Why is it read forty times?

In order to eliminate confusion and confusion in thoughts and calm the soul. While a person reads a verse, carefully follows the content - doubts disappear, and his faith in the Lord is revived.

At present, observing the events taking place in the world, a person is deeply aware of the main words of the prayer: "The Lord is my hope." In them, he finds peace and ceases to worry.

Psalm 90 is a prayer that protects from evil people, from evil spirits, from devilish manifestations. You will find confirmation of this by opening the Gospel. So, Jesus Christ, during a 40-day fast in the desert, in order not to give in to the temptations of Satan, read the 11th and 12th verses of this prayer (see - from Matthew 4:6 and from Luke 4:11).

Psalm 90 as a talisman:

Psalm 90 is a very strong amulet. He performs this function not only during the pronunciation of poetry, but also in writing. You can write it on a piece of paper or on a piece of cloth and put this text in your clothes. He will protect you from evil people, enemies, and simply from manifestations of unfriendliness; forever protect from all the negative moments that abound in life.

When they read psalm 90 in temples:

In Western Christian churches, this prayer is used during evening worship. The Eastern Christian Church uses Psalm 90 as part of the 6th hour worship service, as well as at funerals for the dead.

In Orthodox churches, it is customary to read psalms 26, 50, 90 in Church Slavonic. The reason is that it is considered impossible to express the meaning and key idea of these prayers if they are translated into another language. But it is still permissible to read Psalm 90 in Russian. The main thing is to sincerely cry out to the Lord.

Prayer Idea:

Psalm 90 contains the idea that an irresistible force is present in faith in the Most High. There is an element of prophecy in prayer, this can be found in the reference to the coming of the Savior in the final 16th verse of Psalm 90. The text is best read and memorized in Church Slavonic. In order to penetrate deeply into the meaning of prayer, it is necessary to get acquainted with a summary of the interpretation of each verse.

Interpretation of the prayer:

Its main content is as follows:

The Lord gave people the law of divine commandments, the person who fulfills them will always be under the protection of God.

A believing person turns to the Lord with the words that only he is his hope and protection, only he trusts in him.

The Lord will save a person from an attack on his physical body or from committing a sin in passion, as well as from an evil word - from slander that produces confusion in his soul.

The Lord will undoubtedly protect a person with the same love with which a mother hen hides her chicks with her wings. Because His Truth is a shield and an instrument for the preservation of the believer who recognizes this truth.

"You will not be afraid from the fear of the night, from the arrow that flies into the days."

A person who receives God's help will not be afraid of robbers who can attack at night, thieves, bandits. He will not be afraid of the thing that comes in darkness, that is, fornication, adultery. And also he will not be afraid of the midday demon, that is, laziness and carelessness, which corrupt people with the temptations of carnal passions.

A thousand on the left is a temptation to sins, ten thousand on the right is an opposition to the charitable deeds of man. But a person who has deep faith in the Lord will not be harmed by them.

God will help you see how your enemies will be punished.

A person completely relied on God with all his mind and heart, therefore the protection of the Lord is so strong.

Since man has made God his refuge, he will not experience any calamity, the house will not be destroyed, and the body will not suffer from disease.

The hands of angels will keep your soul in times of temptation and trouble.

Asp and basilisk - slander and envy, lion and serpent - cruelty and inhumanity, the Lord will protect the righteous believer from them.

It is not the person who recognizes the existence of God who knows the Name of God, but only the one who fulfills his commandments and his will, only he is worthy of God's help.

A person who has entrusted himself to the Lord will turn to him in danger, and He will hear him and protect him, and glorify him in eternal life for his Faith.

This verse says that whoever trusts in God, He will give him eternal life, Salvation is Jesus Christ.

Psalm 90 - the best defense:

Psalm 90, created long before the birth of Christ, is one of the prayers in demand. Many Orthodox believers have a story that is associated with an amazing deliverance from any danger or misfortune with the help of the “Alive in Help” prayer.

The protective power of this prayer has nothing to do with superstition. Prayer must be known by heart, it is advisable to read it before leaving the house and before setting off on a long journey.

Illustrative examples of the power of Psalm 90 are known amazing stories from life about how this prayer protects a person. During the First World War fought a British regiment under the command of Colonel Wittelsea. During the four years that the war continued, not a single soldier died in this regiment. This happened because all the military, having memorized the text, regularly repeated the words of the 90th psalm, they had the name “On Protection”.

Another case of a later time, which was told by a Soviet Afghan officer. During the call to the army, his mother asked him to take a small icon on which was the prayer of Psalm 90 and said that if it was hard, let him read it three times. He was sent to Afghanistan, where he was the commander of a reconnaissance company. The usual trips to the rear to the dushmans, ambushes on caravans with weapons, but once they themselves were ambushed. They were surrounded on all sides. Soldiers were dying, there was almost no ammunition left. He saw that they would not survive. Then he remembered the words of his mother, a small icon was always in his breast pocket. He took it out, began to read a prayer. And then a miracle happened: he suddenly felt that it became very quiet, as if he was covered with an invisible veil, or a cap. He managed to gather the survivors, and they went on a breakthrough and got out of the encirclement without losing anyone. After that, he believed in God and the power of prayer, read it before each sortie behind enemy lines, fought until the end of the war, returned home without a single scratch.

139:1-3 Psalm. Choir leader. Psalm of David.
2 Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man; save me from the oppressor: 3 they think evil in their hearts, every day they rise up in battle,
Are given brief characteristics evil in the understanding of David: they love to oppress, the desire to do evil is in their hearts, moreover, this desire lives in them daily.
However this can be said not only about others.
This can be said about oneself, about one's past, about those bad thoughts and deeds that sometimes manifest themselves in every descendant of Adam. Therefore, we must constantly ask Jehovah that the “evil man,” who is also in us, disappear once and for all.

David understands that the presence of evil people in his environment does not depend on him: no matter how much he himself strives for peace and goodwill, there will always be spiteful critics around him. Therefore, his hope is in God, only He can provide security in an age filled with evil ones.

139:4 they sharpen their tongue like a snake; the poison of the asp is under their mouths.
The tongue of an evil person is like snake venom: you can kill not only with a weapon or snake venom, you can also kill with a word. The words of the evil ones are precisely aimed at spoiling the life of the one who listens to them and bringing him to a fall before God.

139:5 Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked, save me from oppressors who plan to shake my steps.
The evil ones carefully plan to shake the feet of the servants of God, make insidious plans in their hearts to shake their confidence, therefore outwardly a person cannot always recognize with whom he is dealing. And God knows how to destroy even the most secret plans, so David asks for protection from Him.

139:6,7 The proud have hidden snares and nooses for me;
David guesses that he is being hunted - wherever possible. But careful disguise of evil intentions complicates his ability to see trouble and evade it. Only for the help of God is his hope:
7 I said to the Lord: You are my God; Hear, O Lord, the voice of my prayers!

139:8 Lord, Lord, power of my salvation! You covered my head on the day of battle.
David is sure that it is God who is a protective cover for him in unfavorable days, in days of confrontation with all opponents

139:9 Do not give, O Lord, what is desired to the wicked; do not let his evil plan succeed: they will become proud.
The reason why David does not want success for the wicked is not only in personal troubles, but also in unwillingness to give the wicked the opportunity to be proud of their achievements: after all, if they win, they will have reason to believe that they have defeated the God of David, and His name will again be in ridicule

139:10,11 May the evil of their own lips cover the heads of those around me.
11 Let burning coals fall on them; let them be thrown into the fire, into the abyss, so that they do not get up.
David wants the malice directed at him to turn back and overtake all who generate it. When the wicked disappear from the face of the earth, it will be easy and joyful for the righteous to live.

139:12 An evil-speaking person will not establish himself on earth; evil will drag the oppressor into destruction.
A very important note: in order to be evil in the eyes of God, it is not necessary to necessarily do some kind of evil deed. It is enough to speak evil words to fall into the ranks of the wicked, deserving of destruction.

139:13,14 I know that the Lord will bring judgment to the oppressed and justice to the poor.
14 So! the righteous will praise your name; the blameless will dwell before you.

David is sure that a time of happiness will come for the righteous who suffer in this age from the deceit of the evil ones: all those who love God's way of life will certainly praise God, who has delivered them from all the wicked of the earth.

"Orthodox Life" (Supplement to "Orthodox Russia") No. 12, 2007

I firmly trusted in the Lord, and He bowed down to me and heard my cry; he drew me out of the terrible ditch, out of the muddy swamp, and set my feet on a stone and established my steps; and put into my mouth a new song - praise to our God. Many will see and fear and trust in the Lord. Blessed is the man who puts his hope in the Lord and does not turn to the proud and to those who turn to falsehood. You have done a lot, O Lord, my God: about your miracles and your thoughts about us - who will be like you! - I would like to preach and speak, but they exceed the number. Sacrifices and offerings You did not desire; You opened my ears; You did not require burnt offerings and sin offerings. Then I said: here I go; in a book scroll it is written about me: I desire to do Thy will, my God, and Thy law is in my heart. I have proclaimed your righteousness in the great congregation; I did not rebuke my mouth: You, Lord, know. I did not hide Your truth in my heart, I proclaimed Your faithfulness and Your salvation, I did not hide Your mercy and Your truth before the great assembly. Do not withhold, O Lord, Thy bounties from me; Thy mercy and Thy truth guard me unceasingly, for incalculable troubles have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me, so that I cannot see: they are more than the hairs on my head; my heart has left me. Delight, Lord, to deliver me; God! hasten to help me. May all who seek the destruction of my soul be ashamed and put to shame! May those who wish me harm be turned back and ridiculed! Let those who say to me, well, be troubled at their shame! Good! May all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You, and let those who love Your salvation say without ceasing: great is the Lord! I am poor and needy, but the Lord cares for me. You are my help and my deliverer, my God! don't slow down.

49 psalm

The God of Gods, the Lord hath spoken and called upon the earth, from the rising of the sun to the west. From Zion, which is the height of beauty, God is coming our God and not in silence: a consuming fire is before Him, and around Him there is a violent storm. He calls heaven and earth from above to judge His people: Gather unto Me My saints, who entered into a covenant with Me at the sacrifice. And the heavens shall proclaim his righteousness, for this judge is God. Hear my people, I will speak; Israel! I will testify against you: I am God, your God. It is not for your sacrifices that I will rebuke you; your burnt offerings are always before me; I will not accept a calf from your house, nor goats from your courts, for all the animals in the forest, and the cattle on a thousand mountains, are Mine; I know all the birds on the mountains, and the animals in the fields are before Me. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for My universe and everything that fills it. Do I eat the meat of oxen and drink the blood of goats? Offer praise to God as a sacrifice and pay your vows to the Most High, and call on Me in the day of sorrow; I will deliver you and you will glorify Me. But God says to the sinner: why do you preach my statutes and take my covenant in your mouth, and you yourself hate my precept and cast down my words for yourself? when you see a thief, you join with him, and associate with adulterers; you open your mouth to slander, and your tongue weaves deceit; you sit and speak against your brother, you slander against your mother's son; you did it and I was silent; you thought I was the same as you. I will rebuke you and present your sins before your eyes. Understand this, you who forget God, lest I take away, and there will be no redeemer. Whoever sacrifices praise honors Me, and whoever watches his way, to him I will show the salvation of God.

53 psalm

When the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Isn't David hiding with us? God! save me by your name, and judge me by your power. God! hear my prayer, heed the words of my mouth, for strangers have risen up against me, and the strong seek my soul; they do not have God before them. Behold, God is my helper; The Lord strengthens my soul. He will repay the evil of my enemies; destroy them in your truth. I will diligently offer you a sacrifice, I will glorify your name, Lord, for it is good, for you delivered me from all troubles, and my eye looked at my enemies.

58 psalm

Deliver me from my enemies, my God! protect me from those who rise up against me; deliver me from those who do iniquity; save from the bloodthirsty, for behold, they lie in wait for my soul; mighty ones gather against me, not for my transgression and not for my sin, O Lord; without my fault they flee and arm themselves; move to help me and look. You, Lord, God of hosts, God of Israel, arise to visit all the nations, do not spare any of the wicked lawless: in the evening they return, howl like dogs, and walk around the city; behold, they spew blasphemy with their tongue; swords in their mouths: they think, who hears? But You, Lord, will laugh at them; You will shame all nations. They have strength, but I resort to You, for God is my intercessor. My God, who has mercy on me, will precede me; God will let me look at my enemies. Do not put them to death, lest my people forget; scatter them by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our defender. The word of their tongue is the sin of their mouth, let them be caught in their pride for the oath and the lie that they utter. Squander them in anger, squander them to be gone; and let them know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Let them return in the evening, howl like dogs, and walk around the city; let them roam to find food, and the unsatiated spend their nights. And I will sing of Your power and proclaim Your mercy from early morning, for You were my protection and refuge in the day of my distress. My strength! I will sing to you, for God is my intercessor, my God, who has mercy on me.

139 psalm

Deliver me, Lord, from the evil man; save me from the oppressor: they think evil in their hearts, every day they take up arms in battle, they sharpen their tongue like a snake; the poison of the asp is under their mouths. Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked, save me from oppressors who plan to shake my steps. The proud have hidden snares and nooses for me; I said to the Lord: You are my God; Hear, O Lord, the voice of my prayers! Lord, Lord, power of my salvation! You covered my head on the day of battle. Do not give, O Lord, what is desired to the wicked; do not let his evil plan succeed: they will become proud. May the evil of their own lips cover the heads of those around me. Let burning coals fall on them; let them be thrown into the fire, into the abyss, so that they do not get up. An evil-speaking person will not establish himself on earth; evil will drag the oppressor into destruction. I know that the Lord will bring judgment to the oppressed and justice to the poor. So! the righteous will praise your name; the blameless will dwell before your face.
